What Are The Benefits Of Using Osmo Hard Wax Oil?

Osmo Polyx Oil is developed from natural oils and waxes. This protective coating benefits your table in the following ways:

• Extremely durable and hardwearing, to further increase the lifespan of your table
• Very water and dirt resistant
• Enhances the wood’s natural character
• Resistant to common liquid spillages such as water, juice, tea, cola and wine

How Does Osmo Hard Wax Protect My Table?

Osmo Polyx Oil is a viscous blend of oils and wax. Hard wax oils offer the natural look and feel of an oil with enhanced durability. The inclusion of a wax to the traditional oil makeup provides a resilient outer coating whilst maintaining the ease of patch repair typically associated with oils.

By perfectly combining the benefits of oils and waxes it provides a hard wearing, durable and reliable finish for furniture.

Which Woods are Best?

Osmo Polyx Oil is suitable with a range of woods, including oak, smoked oak, European walnut, ash, and maple.

Hardman Design can custom-build furniture, but our tables tend to be handcrafted from these woods - naturally sourced where possible. Therefore, finishing each piece off with an Osmo hard wax oil makes for the perfect pairing.

Which Finish Is Best?

The right type of finish really depends on the wood, and personal preference. Hardman Design is happy to advise on the best finish for you, depending on your table.

But as a general rule of thumb:

• Clear, Matt: For an almost completely natural look. Light reflections are diffused.
• Clear, Glossy: Looks elegant: Light is reflected back and lets the flooring stand out.
• Clear, Satin: The subtle, noble shimmer resembles satin and emphasises the wood grain modestly.
• Clear, Semi-Matt: Optimally balanced variation: Glossy surfaces become duller over time, Matt surfaces become glossier.
  

Aftercare

By their very nature, Osmo hard wax oils enhance the lifespan of your table, so very little upkeep and maintenance is required.

That said, if you want to add a little more protection, you can use the Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner (3029).

To apply, use a couple of tablespoons of the clear liquid wax and apply gently with a cloth or fine brush. Allow around 40 minutes for it to dry. For optimum results, apply two to four times a year. 

If you have the table for many years, then a recoat of the hard wax oil may be required. But rest assured, Osmo products are easy to apply.

To do this, first prepare the wood surface by ensuring it is clean and dry. 

Ensure that old microporous stains are cleaned thoroughly and any old paints and lacquers must be completely removed. If necessary, use Osmo Wood Filler to fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in the wood.

Then, carefully sand the wood surfaces: Begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding work for furniture P180-240. Make sure that sanding dust is removed before oiling the table.

To coat the table, stir the oil well before use and then apply thinly along the wood grain and spread well. Allow to dry for approximately 8-10 hours under good ventilation. When renovating or recoating an already oiled surface, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient, but apply a second if necessary.
